Who We Are

The Five Winds Backcountry Ski & Snowshoe Club is a four-season outdoor club.  During the winter months, we enjoy cross country skiing on marked, ungroomed wilderness trails, off-trail snowshoeing and winter camping.  Each Sunday, from January to the end of March, a luxury coach will take us to different areas of our trail system.  During the spring, summer and fall, we enjoy activities such as hiking, backpacking, trail clearing, and camping.

...We travel in small groups of 5-8 skiers of similar abilities and speed, using map and compass.  As a backcountry club, many of our members seek out off the beaten track adventures, whether it's skiing, snowshoeing, hiking or backpacking.   You may not come across another soul; or as in the case of our winter bus, may only see another group at the end of the day when waiting to be picked up by the bus.

As a member of the Five Winds you will be able to create an outing and post it on our website and as an organizer you will be covered by our insurance policy.

Our members cover a broad range of experience, skill and physical fitness and are very open in sharing their love of the Muskoka wilderness.

The Five Wind trails cover over 120 km and were originally created in the early 1970's. On our outings we traverse rugged Canadian Shield terrain by trail and bushwhacking.

Check out our photo album will give you a good idea of what we do.

Safety is taken serious with our club and guides and protocols are included in our Forms and Document section of our website (see bottom of Home page)
