Snow Updates

We have many members who have homes or cottages near our trail system, so we will receive frequent Snow Updates on the condition of the trails and how much snow we have.  Our trail system covers a vast area and conditions can be quite variable from one location to another due to snowsqualls that come off Georgian Bay.  It would not be uncommon to receive three feet of snow in one area while another area would receive six inches depending on which way the wind is blowing, so the club will travel to the area most favourable depending on the conditions.  The conditions can vary greatly compared to other ski areas such as Kolapore and Copeland Forest, but generally due to the more northerly location and predominant westerly winds, our trail system will hold its snow the longest.

Well, in less than a week we have gone from waist to chest deep snow to this!! Still skiable, but ... 2nd pic looks better than the first, but at most snow might be 20 cm deep. Ponds and Lakes are slop. Hope we get a good freeze up (and more snow) soon !

There is plenty of snow up on our trails with fresh snow on top.  Ponds, lakes and untracked forests are firm, but you will still sink in a bit.  There should not be any heavy trail breaking.  More snow is forecast to come in the coming days.

Five inches (12.7 cm)  of new snow has come down overnight up in the Five Winds area.  Sunday looks to be high winds again, although not as bad as Saturday.

There is about 2 to three inches of new light snow in the Five Winds area on the ground.  The layer underneath is still wet but should be able to dry out today/tonight as we've now got colder temperatures to penetrate through that layer.  We are forecast to get more snow throughout the next few days.

There is still plenty of snow in the Five Winds area even though we received rain overnight.  Everything should start freezing up again this afternoon and evening, and some snow is forecast overnight and in the coming days.

We should have some really good off-trail skiing through the swamps, ponds and unbroken woods.  Trail skiing (optional depending on what the group decides) could be a bit more challenging for some as some trails may be hard packed, however, it depends how much new snow will follow in the coming days.  Either way, whether trail skiing, off trail skiing or snowshoeing, there shouldn't be a lot of hard "trail breaking".

Will continue to update the Snow Updates, so keep checking back.
