Sunday, January 8, 2017 was -18 Celsius. Due to the earlier mild temperatures we had a solid base and soft dry snow on top which made for effortless skiing. However, snow is a great insulator and since the streams, marshes, and lakes had not frozen totally before the snow squalls hit our ski area we had some slush. A skier hits slush in the cold temperatures and you have hard rock ice on the bottom of your skis. At times members were busy scrapping. We learned to avoid these dubious spots and all had an enjoyable day.
