The first Winter Bus of the season is:

    Sunday, January 8, 2017.

    Registration is now open.
    • Short Video:  How to Reserve or Cancel your Registration Online.  Our preference is that you book online rather than phone.  Phone messages can be difficult to hear and important information may be missing.  It will make it easier for our Bus Organizers if you book online as the information will be stored in a database, and a bus report can easily be run each week.

Another successful McCrae Lake Clean-up with members from Five Winds and Barrie Canoe Club, Swift Outdoor Centre, and under the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources, as well as the Township of Georgian Bay making a special trip to pick up the garbage loads.

These twice yearly clean-ups which also include adding/moving thunder boxes, usually take place the Saturday or Sunday after the Victoria Day and Labour Day long weekends.

If you use McCrae Lake for canoeing, hiking/backpacking or winter activities, email the Barrie Canoe Club to see if you can help out.  More people are always welcome.  There are over 72 campsites on the lake, and not all campsites are reached in a given year.

Unfortunately, these clean-ups are necessary because of the lack of respect by some users.  Keeping sites as clean as possible will encourage others not to leave garbage behind, and hopefully pick up some extra trash.

Make a weekend of it; canoe/hike one day and clean-up the other day.

On Sunday, May 29, four members from Five Winds joined eight members from the Barrie Canoe and Kayak Club to do campsite cleanup and thunder box relocation on McCrae Lake Campsite. 28 sites were cleaned up, dismantled 3 firepits, and installed a new thunder box at a new location.  4 other thunder boxes were relocated.  McCrae Lake has 72 marked campsites on the lake.

Clean-up days are usually scheduled the following week after the Victoria Day and Labour Day long weekends.

This is just a portion of what we had collected.  A special trip will be made by the Township to pick up the garbage we left at the "No Dumping" sign.   ;-)
