We are heading to the Nine Mile Lake Area this coming Sunday (Jan 20, 2019).

The forecast for this week is below freezing peaking out at -19C on Sunday.

Looks like a dusting of snow for the first few days of the week.  So conditions should be good.

A map case was found on the bus on Jan. 13th. Will the owner drop me a note @ georgearras15@gmail.com or call me @ 647-470-3563 so we can make arrangements?

There is a bus going to the Marsh Trails area with groups for both skiers and snowshoers. We expect good snow coverage with some icy spots on the trails. "Icers" or hiking crampons may be helpful in some spots. Awareness of open or recently frozen waters recommended.

The snow conditions on the trails and forests has a firm snow base of around 6-12 inches, with a dusting of new snow on top.

The lakes have 8 inches plus of ice.  So safe.  Creeks and beaver dams have of course  running water, but this generally is not an issue to get around.

This will enable us to have both ski and snowshoe groups.

Skiers will tend to ski the marshes and ponds.

Snowshoers, bring your snowshoes, but if you have icers, bring those as well.  Once we arrive in the area, we'll have a better idea but we expect it's likely a snow hike, and you may only need icers.  We can leave the snowshoes in  the bus.  We had 2 snowshoe groups on Jan 6, 2019 (one group used icers and one group snowshoed) .  The plan on Jan 13, 2019 is to have 2 snowshoe groups again.

We are looking at the 12 Mile Lake Bay area and surrounding marshes/flats as the best place to go this week.  Drop off on the road and pick up at Galla Lake or somewhere on the road.

The snow condtiions on the trails and forests are low, but we currently have excellent ice conditions with fresh snow on top.  This will enable us to have both ski and snowshoe groups.

Skiers will be able to ski the marshes and ponds but in connecting sections you may need to take off skis dependent on the snow level.

Snowshoers, bring your snowshoes, but if you have icers, bring those as well.  Once we arrive in the area, we'll have a better idea but we expect it's likely a snow hike, and you may only need icers.  We already have a couple of snowshoe groups and we have a number of leaders who have indicated that they will lead other snowshoe/hike groups.

We are looking at the Vautier area and surrounding marshes/flats as the best place to go this week.

Changing your reservation (from ski to snowshoe or vice versa)

If you have already booked and would like to switch from skiing to snowshoeing, please do so before (Friday 1 p.m.).   It will be helpful to our group coordinators so they can plan the groups before getting on the bus.

If you decide to switch after Friday, 1 p.m., you will not be able to do so online anymore, and would need to contact the coordinators or the website, however, there is no guarantee that the message will be seen.  In that case, the coordinators will deal with it on the bus.

Please remember to go to the Bus Updates link found on the  home page for any update info as we won't always send e-mails out.

We are still getting cold temperatures at night to keep the lakes and marshes frozen, as well as some new fresh snow.  We will go to the Gravenhurst side this week.

On the 25th, our last bus will travel on the 400 side of the trails.

Non-Members are welcome.  If you're thinking of joining the club, this is a great way to see what we're about.  We'll continue with backpacking and hiking through car pooling next.
